To the Boy Who Makes Me Laugh
Dear Ethan,
I don't think you understand what you do to a room when you walk into it.
You make people laugh. You make awkward silences disappear. You somehow turn the most ordinary Tuesday into a story everyone remembers on Wednesday.
And then there's me.
I'm the boy who laughs a little too hard at your jokes because sometimes it's the only way I know how to keep looking at you without you noticing.
I wish you knew how much I think about the little things. The way you remember details other people forget. The way you can tell when something is wrong, even when I insist I'm fine. The way you say my name like it's the most normal thing in the world.
Maybe that's why I like hearing it so much.
You make being around people feel easier. You make being myself feel a little less frightening.
And that scares me more than I want to admit.
Because what happens when the person who makes you feel safe becomes the person you're terrified of losing?
I don't know if you will ever read this. I don't even know if I want you to.
I just know that somewhere between your stupid jokes and your stupid smile, you became someone I look for in every room.
And I don't know what to do with that.
